Albuterol sulfate (Albuterol Sulfate)

Albuterol sulfate is a medicine used for the relief of bronchospasms (airway narrowing) caused by airway disease (such as asthma). Albuterol sulfate relaxes the airway muscles so that you can breathe more easily. Albuterol sulfate is available as an inhalation aerosol, inhalation solution, tablets, extended-release tablets (albuterol sulfate ER), and syrup. Albuterol sulfate aerosol is also used in the prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasms.

Tell your doctor right away if albuterol sulfate is less effective in relieving your symptoms. Also, tell your doctor if your symptoms get worse. Albuterol sulfate can cause heart problems, such as arrhythmias (life-threatening irregular heartbeat) or an increase in your heartbeat. Tell your doctor if you have any heart problems. Albuterol sulfate can also decrease your blood potassium levels, and this can affect your heart. Albuterol sulfate can cause allergic reactions or severe skin reactions. Tell your doctor right away if you experience symptoms such as itchiness, rash, angioedema (a condition involving swelling of the face, extremities, eyes, lips, and tongue), wheezing, chest tightness, or shortness of breath.
