Amitriptyline (Amitriptyline HCl)

Amitriptyline is a medicine used to treat depression.

Amitriptyline can increase the risk of suicidal thoughts and behavior in children, adolescents, and young adults. Your doctor will monitor you closely for clinical worsening, suicidal or unusual behavior after you start taking amitriptyline or a new dose of amitriptyline. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience anxiety, hostility, sleeplessness, restlessness, impulsive or dangerous behavior, or thoughts about suicide or dying; or if you have new symptoms or seem to be feeling worse. Keep all follow-up visits with your doctor as scheduled. Call your doctor between visits as needed, especially if you have concerns about symptoms. Amitriptyline can affect your blood sugar. If you have diabetes, check your blood sugar levels regularly. Your doctor will decide if the dose of your diabetes medicine needs to be changed.
