Augmentin 500 mg
Augmentin XR 1000 mg
Augmentin (Amoxicillin/Clavulanate Potassium)

Augmentin is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the lower (lung) respiratory tract, ear, sinuses, skin, and urinary tract. Augmentin is available as chewable tablets, oral suspension, and tablets.

Do not take Augmentin if you are allergic to it or other similar antibiotics (such as penicillin or cephalosporins [such as cephalexin or cefdinir]). Tell your doctor right away if you take Augmentin and you feel signs of an allergic reaction (such as a rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing). Diarrhea is a common problem when taking antibiotics; it usually ends when the antibiotic is stopped. Sometimes after starting treatment with antibiotics, people may develop watery and bloody stools (with or without stomach cramps and fever) even as late as two or more months after having taken the last dose of the antibiotic. Contact your doctor right away if this occurs. Take Augmentin as prescribed by your doctor for the full course of treatment, even if your symptoms improve earlier. Do not skip doses. Skipping doses or not completing the full course of Augmentin can decrease its effectiveness and can lead to the growth of bacteria that are resistant to the effects of Augmentin. If you have a condition known as phenylketonuria (an inability to process phenylalanine, a protein in your body), be aware that Augmentin chewable tablets and oral suspension contain phenylalanine.
