Cozaar (Losartan Potassium)

Cozaar is a medicine used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure. Cozaar is also used to lower the risk of stroke if you have high blood pressure and a heart condition called left ventricular hypertrophy (enlargement of the section of the heart that is responsible for pumping blood to the rest of the body). In addition, Cozaar is used to treat kidney disease in patients with diabetes and high blood pressure.

Cozaar can cause low blood pressure, especially if you take diuretics (water pills). If you feel faint or dizzy, lie down and call your doctor. Cozaar can cause a serious allergic reaction. If you experience swelling of your face, lips, throat, or tongue, stop taking Cozaar and get emergency medical help right away. Cozaar can worsen your kidney function if you already have kidney problems. Tell your doctor if you get swelling in your feet, ankles, or hands, or unexplained weight gain. Cozaar may not work as well for you if you are African American.
