Qvar (Beclomethasone Dipropionate)

Qvar is an inhaled corticosteroid medicine used for the long-term treatment of asthma. It also helps to prevent symptoms of asthma.

Qvar does not treat the symptoms of a sudden asthma attack. Always have a short-acting rescue inhaler (such as albuterol) to treat sudden symptoms. If you do not have a short-acting inhaler, tell your doctor to have one prescribed for you. Tell your doctor immediately if an asthma attack does not respond to the rescue inhaler or if you require more doses than usual. If you use Qvar, you can have a higher risk of getting an infection. If you have not had or not been vaccinated against chickenpox or measles, stay away from people who are infected while you are using Qvar. Tell your doctor immediately if you are exposed to these diseases. Qvar can cause slowed or delayed growth in children. Check your child’s growth regularly during treatment with Qvar. It may take 1-4 weeks after starting Qvar for your asthma symptoms to improve. Tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or get worse. Do not stop using Qvar or change your dose, even if your symptoms get better. Your doctor will change your medicine as needed.
